The Artist and the studio

Layla and me on our weekly hikes.

Hi there, I’m Marena!

A Palestinian born henna artist based out of Dallas, Texas. I began professionally drawing henna in 2016 and quickly became a master of my craft. My designs are inspired by fashion and nature, as seen in my detailed line work and beading which accentuate the natural beauty of the body. Henna has allowed me to express myself and it brings me joy to share this deep rooted cultural practice with others. Each person is unique with their own reasons to be adorned with henna, which is why I make it a rule to never copy or duplicate a design. Every piece is custom and drawn freehand by me with my 100% natural henna/jagua paste. My clients come from different backgrounds in various shapes, sizes and skin tones. I strive to celebrate them not only with my art but also through providing an inviting space to spread positive self-love.

The services I provide include, but are not limited to: scar coverups, belly blessings, photoshoots, bridal, corporate and educational events. Every individual who comes to me leaves empowered and is reminded that art should be celebrated at every opportunity and you don’t have to be a bride to be to feel and receive something special and beautiful.

Like all traditional henna artists, my home and those of my clients was my work space for six years. Due to the pandemic, I was inspired to reimagine how I could still continue providing my services while keeping everyone safe. With the help and support of my clients, I worked out of a studio suite for one year before taking the leap and creating the space I’ve always dreamt of; a cultural hub that celebrates women and showcases the talents and beauty of the Arabic Culture. In The Haus of Henna, you can relax knowing that all of our henna/jagua is natural and handmade; and all the products and accessories are made by and support Arab women. To further promote cross cultural interactions, we will be hosting events like: diverse comedy shows, henna cultural events, henna classes, and art showcases.

The Haus of Henna is my love letter to Palestine, and all the beautiful things I cherish about my culture. When you come into the studio, you will experience Arabic hospitality complete with dates and coffee, Palestinian art and tapestries, and Arabic music. It is a safe space for my clients to be themselves, and to share in the 5000 year old art form of henna.
